Were shipped back by the O.I.C - the sub-district Admin chief - a Sub-District Officer, with the ranking of A.D.O, to be "observed" by the higher echelons at District Administration Centres eg: Lae in the Morobe District or even to Port Moresby for closer observance. Most then were shipped south - unsuitable for the position! ha ha.

Being stuck with one during a cyclone for a few days must have been "pure BLOODY murder". I think I would have - no best not say.
Cheers and a great story
All the best for 2016
Colin
Huggybearhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17517411617275367396noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27914104.post-35030872302066367772016-01-01T11:59:01.609-08:002016-01-01T11:59:01.609-08:00I'm glad you returned to finish reading the st...I'm glad you returned to finish reading the story, Graham. Quite a tale it was too. It certainly makes anything I've done in my life seem very tame. I've ridden out a few hurricanes up here on Lewis and even lost a large conservatory in January 2005. The nearest I've ever been to a cyclone though was in January (?) 1999 north of Shark Bay in WA. We couldn't go any further up the coast because all the roads were closed on the other side of the creek and the bridges were down anyway. By the time I arrived though the cyclone had gone.

However your story was enjoyable and gripping I must say. I think one sentence struck me though: "I’ve always suffered a huge desire for self-preservation.". Somehow I think if I'd made that statement I'd have had far less dramatic things in mind to be preserving myself from.Graham Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11196744947133121475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27914104.post-6472697136346441042015-12-31T16:35:07.199-08:002015-12-31T16:35:07.199-08:00It sure was an adventure, Lynn, that Christmas-New...It sure was an adventure, Lynn, that Christmas-New Year. Your adventure sounds like something out of an old Humphrey Bogart movie (Key Largo, I think), just without the gunplay. Potential fisticuffs would be bad enough, I think. Hearing about the jellyfish reminded me of when we visited the gulf coast after a powerful hurricane and they told us about gators and snakes who had washed into restaurants and the like. That would be enough to send me to the roof.Big Dave Thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18363712781308133633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27914104.post-52663086697552533432015-12-30T12:14:48.901-08:002015-12-30T12:14:48.901-08:00The northern parts of England certainly are coppin...The northern parts of England certainly are copping it at the moment. So are parts of our tropical north...which is great because some of that much-needed rain is reaching down further into the drought-affected farming areas. Some of those areas haven't seen a drop of rain in four years. We are the country Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar described in her poem - "My Country".
