VALE...PRINCE PHILIP, DUKE OF EDINBURGH

 




 

The passing of Prince Philip is very sad news...not unexpected, but sad nonetheless....

In 1954 I saw the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh during their visit to Brisbane.  At the time, I was in the Brownies.  My fellow Brownies and I travelled by train from Gympie to Brisbane to be part of a Guard of Honour for the visiting new Monarch and her Consort.  It was an exciting event.

Then in the early 1970s I was among an eager crowd of people as the Queen and her Prince drove along the streets of Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.  Fortunately, I was in the front of the madding crowd, fairly close to the passing parade.  The Duke was a handsome man.




A love story worthy of the most romantic novel...

    I saw the sad news on the front page of today's Advertiser, inside there are a few pages of stories and photos too. I was hoping he'd make it to his 100th birthday.

      Hi River...there was extensive coverage for many hours last night (Friday evening) on TV...and again all morning today, and on the evening news. Today's "Courier Mail", which I have delivered on Saturdays, had a lot of coverage, too...and I expect similar again tomorrow in the "Sunday Mail".

      I was hoping he'd make it to his 100th, too...only two months away...so very sad.

      Mine, too, EC...mine, too. They were a team...and he was her rock...so very, very sad. Unashamedly, I admit my tears have fallen freely....

    I, too, feel sorry for Her Majesty. Prince Phillip's demise heralds the ending of an era.

      Yes, messymimi...even though, the family, and the rest of the world knew his time on earth was drawing rapidly to an end...his passing is no less sad.

      Prince Philip was a good man, who did a lot of good during his life...a lot more, I believe, than many people thought, or knew about.

    I was very sad when I heard this news yesterday. How difficult this will be for the Queen. I love how he always made her smile and laugh!

      Yes, Bonnie, it is very sad. His passing has affected me far more than I would have ever imagined it would have done. I've shed quite a few tears over the weekend. Prince Philip made an indelible mark by his presence on this earth...and that mark shall remain. There will not be another like him, in my opinion.

      Things will change now, I believe...and not for the better.

    Oh how lucky you have been in your life to have seen the Queen and Prince Philip!
    I think his passing was somehow a bit more difficult for Richard (a Brit who has lived more than half his life in America now) than he hardly thought possible.
    The Queen, my God, she has had a lot to contend with lately!

      Kay...I, too, am surprised at myself...by the depth of sorrow I am feeling at the passing of Prince Philip. I have shed many tears over the weekend.

      An articulate, talented man, with many talents about which the general public were not aware, he was a man who did it his way. The song "My Way" could very well be his theme song.

      He will be missed...and most of all he will be missed by the Queen, his love.

      Many changes lie ahead...

      Hey, Pauline...He was a fine man...down to earth...he didn't suffer fools easily or gladly. He will be missed. And, he will be missed so very much by his queen, the Queen. It's a very sad time. I have been very saddened over his loss, even though, it was expected, sooner than later.
