Mum and Kittens...graphite sketch by me |
Today is the birthday of my two beautiful furry, four-legged rascals who share my life and love -they were born on 4th November, 2002. I can't believe both Remy and Shama are now 13.
It seems like only yesterday that they came into my life, immediately stealing my heart. That fortunate day, for me and for them, was Friday, 13th December, 2002.
I saw a picture of two little kittens pinned to the notice board outside of the local supermarket. I still have that photo pinned to my wall near my computer.
I tore off the phone number and immediately dashed to the nearest phone booth. Without further ado, I drove to the address given with the intention of get one kitten.
On the floor of the laundry of the home sat two little kittens who both turned and looked up into my eyes as I approached. How could I choose one over the other! I didn't hesitate...they both came home with me.
We three have lived happily thereafter...and I've learned to do what I'm ordered to do....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO REMY AND SHAMA - they must be brother and sister? And good they have you in line!
ReplyDeleteYes, they are brother and sister, Sandie...part of a set of quads...four kittens in all where born of their mother that wondrous day. The mother was only a young cat herself; and the litter these two came from are the only litter she had. The owners had her spayed shortly thereafter.
DeleteAnd the mother is still alive. About once a year or so I ring the people from whom I got my two mates...to let them know these two are doing well and both are living the life of Riley! Their mother isn't that much older than they are. :)
Thanks for coming by...take good care. :)
So these are your companions and sensibly spayed.
ReplyDeleteI was given a tortoise shell kitten in PNG - no vets. for spaying around and she
was a raving sex maniac - over the period I had her she managed to have
36 kittens - most as they were pretty were given away and of course some
had to go early to "cat heaven". She was great mates with my native bred pooch
who I got as a pup from a school kid. They were like twins. Monty would clean
the kittens as they were born !!!! The funniest combination of cat and dog imaginable. The cat was called "Madame" - little did I realise what a Madame she would become. When she came on heat, it was impossible to lock her up - she just went ballistic!
She was a great snake catcher - even one night jumped on my bed to display her
trophy - 1/2 dead snake, cat and me in bed. I never knew I could move so fast.
I don't know who ended up with the biggest fright - me, Madame or the 1/2 dead snake - who probably died of shock in the turmoil.
From then on my bedroom door was firmly shut.
When I left PNG, none of the Europeans would take my "harlot" so she had to be shot. She was given a very solemn Christian Cat burial with a cross - the day before
I left PNG for good.
Ah but she was a great friend in her strange ways.
Cheers
Colin
Not a happy ending for your Madame, Colin...that saddens me to hear that.
DeleteI've had a cat (and sometimes two, like I have now) in my life always ever since I was a wee toddler. I love my cats. I've only ever had two females, the rest were males, but all were and have been spayed and neutered accordingly.
Remy and Shama, like me, hate snakes...I hate snakes with a vengeance...as my Chapter 15 of my ongoing story re the cats who've shared my life explains.....http://kitconn.blogspot.com.au/2015_09_01_archive.html
Sometime during next week I will be posting Chapter 16 of my endless tale. :)
Thanks for coming by. :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY toyour two sweethearts! They are Beautiful and your renderings of them are beautiful, too. Love the Mommy Cat and the Kittens, too.....! Is there anything you cannot do, my dear?
ReplyDeleteGive them each a Big Hug, for me.
There are many, many things I can't do, Naomi...too many to mention! lol
DeleteI most certainly will give them both hugs from you.
Great to hear from you. I hope all is well...take good care. And hugs back to you from Remy, Shama and me. Thanks for popping in. :)
The wonderful thing about animals who need us...we find out we needed them more!
ReplyDeleteThat's for sure Gail! I'd be lost without my two mates. Thanks for coming by. :)
DeleteA very, very happy birthday to Remy and Shama. And to you too, because their birth has made you very happy indeed.
ReplyDeleteHey there EC....I spoke on the phone a couple of hours ago to the folk I got these two rascals from. (they live only a kilometre or two from where I am). They, of course, hadn't remembered the significance of the date...and were glad to receive my latest up date on their shenanigans. :) Remy and Shama's mother is still hale and hearty. She's not much older than they are...having had them when she was still a kitten herself. They were part of her first and only litter. There were four in the litter.
DeleteI've passed on your good wishes! Thanks for coming by. :)
Happy Birthday Remy and Shama! Give them both cuddles from me won't you.
ReplyDeleteI shall do, River....I just came onto my computer with the intention of visiting your blog. I hope the wild weather hitting South Australia at present is missing you. Stay safe; stay dry.
DeleteRemy and Shama thank you. :)
Happy Birthdsy to your lovely pussy cats. My you are talented, the sketch and art of your pussies a pleasure to see..
ReplyDeleteHello Margaret...the lazy little buggers have spent most of the day sleeping...they did stir, of course, when the aroma of the roast chicken got the better of them! I've been sitting here like a clown with my party hat on waiting for someone to party with me!!! :)
DeleteAhhh...it's a good life if you're a cat...particular if you're a cat who shares its life with me! lol
Thanks for your comment and for dropping by. :)
And they both have each other when you aren't around, how sweet, you paintings and sketch are wonderful, especially like the one with the red background. My Gary was just saying life as a cat is a good one, not many worries.
ReplyDeleteHi there Linda...Your Gary and my two probably exchange comments on their respective blogs and send emails back and forth when we're not watching!
DeleteThanks for coming by. :)
Happy birthday to your kitty cats! And congratulations on your wonderful acrylic painting and sketch. You are definitely multi talented :-)
ReplyDeleteG'day Annie...Remy and Shama thank you for your good wishes. We're all suffering mild hangovers this morning from a day and night of wild celebrations!
DeleteThanks for popping in. :)
Why have one cat when you can have two. Cats are usually happier with a companion fur ball so they are not alone when their owners are gone.
ReplyDeleteHi Arleen...Heavens to Betsy....if I'm away longer than I should be...anything longer than a couple of hours I hear about it loudly and clearly upon my return! I have to walk through the doorway with a note of apology clasped foremost in my hand!! :)
DeleteThanks for coming by. :)
Nice - I have one of these wonderful animals asleep on my left foot as I deal with my blog! I think I may be stuck here all night!
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
I know the feeling well, Stewart! My two know no boundaries...recognise no barriers! I'm just someone to be walked all over, jumped on and laid on! lol
DeleteThanks for coming by. :)
Happy Birthdays Remy & Shama!!!!
ReplyDeleteMiaow! Miaow! Purr! Purr! Thank you kind sir! :)
DeleteIs Remy the black and white one? If so he looks just like our Mandrake!
ReplyDeleteYes, Remy is the black and white one, RK. They're both still recovering from the celebrations! :)
DeleteThanks for dropping in. :)
I'm so glad they entered your life - they are beautiful. And your paintings and drawing are marvelous - you captured their sweet spirit.
ReplyDeleteI am, too, Lynn. They're my best mates. Thanks for coming by and for your comment. :)
DeleteI have brought "two kittens" home with me twice now. Sadly, one always dies first and we are left with just one. But those memories of the other ensue. Strangely, it has been my male cats that have gone first.
ReplyDeleteMostly throughout my life my cats have been male...only twice have I had a female...Shama is the clever little girl in my life at present. She's cluey little cat. Remy is the typical, cuddly male....their personalities are different in many ways...but each are very lovable...they love giving it and they love receiving it...so the three of us make very contented trio! :)
DeleteThanks for coming by, Carol. :)
