WORDS FOR WEDNESDAY

During the month of April, as  well as my usual weekly posts, I will be hosting "Wednesday Words"....having willingly put my hand up to do so......

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over by a moveable feast of participants when Delores had computer troubles.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write, a story, a poem, whatever comes to mind.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along and read it.

This month, as I mentioned above, it is my turn - the words for you to play around with are supplied by me...and only I am to blame!  My shoulders are strong enough to bear the load...I hope!

This week's words are:-

Announcement
Strategy
Minority
Dictate
Fluid
Enigmatic

AND -

Recognition
Playful
Divisive
Evening
Picturesque
Antique

Have fun...enjoy....let your imagination run free....

  1. And below is my contribution using this week’s words.......

“To Tessa’s surprise and disappointment the EVENING meeting had proven to be unexpectedly DIVISIVE.

By choosing the exclusive resort hotel Tessa believed the ambience created by the PICTURESQUE setting, along with the PLAYFUL attitude of the competent, welcoming hosts and staff would put everyone at ease immediately.

    How wrong she was!

Sighing loudly, not knowing which way to turn, she sat in the elaborate tapestry-covered ANTIQUE chair sipping on her Scotch, pondering her next move; another plan of action to enable the company to successfully stride forward.

During the meeting when Tessa suggested the new STRATEGY to help the company progress in a FLUID manner, to her surprise, supporters of her ideas had been in the MINORITY.

The ENIGMATIC behaviour and attitude of her business partners left her confused. She couldn’t understand their perplexing reactions when she’d made the ANNOUNCEMENT.

She didn’t like to DICTATE the terms of their agreement. She had never done so. It wasn’t her way. Tessa believed they were on equal footing in all aspects of the business.

Together as one, in the past, they’d made pertinent decisions respecting each other’s contributions in RECOGNITION of their individual strengths and weaknesses.

However, the disturbing, bombshell result of the evening meeting told another story entirely.

Tessa had been blindsided. Turbulent waters lay ahead.”

    1. Good luck Tessa. Hopefully your canoe will be more than up to riding out those turbulent waters.

    2. Good story! Blindsided is never good. I hope there isn't a move afoot to downgrade Tessa and bring in a ringer.

  2. “Order! Order! Thank you all for coming here this evening to this rather picturesque venue with its antique furnishings and enigmatic paintings. Of course the whole event is in recognition of my daughter Deidre’s betrothal to Humphrey. A minority of those invited have failed to appear including my son Godfrey who found his sister’s marriage announcement quite divisive. At first, I thought he was simply being playful but it was always his strategy to avoid the wedding. As a father I can no longer dictate what my children do but I can ask you all to raise your glasses to toast the bride and groom and quaff your chosen alcoholic fluid. To Deidre and Humphrey!”

    1. Spoken like a proud, aware and loyal father, Yorkie! Well done indeed! :)

Thanks for participating, and thanks for coming by. Your presence/comments have been missed. :)

    2. This is great. Hopefully between the betrothal and the wedding Godfrey will come to his sense.

    3. A very nice story. I hope Godfrey changes his mind and attends the wedding.

    4. Unlikely River as Godfrey is in intensive care having fallen down a flight of stairs following a drunken altercation with Humphrey in the infamous "Kitchen Connection" strip club on Donkey Street.

  3. Now THAT is a list to be reckoned with. I shall commence reckoning.

    1. I reckon you will reckon with them with ease, Delores. I look forward to seeing the results of your reckoning! :)

    2. I need some reckoning time too this week. It's a challenging list for sure.

  4. Sixty minutes to an hour. Twenty-four hours to a day. Fifty-two weeks to a year. Ten years to a decade. Rigid, inflexible divisions. How many years to a life? Rachel smiled. Her very best enigmatic smile. 'This is where those divisions become divisive. All of us have experienced hours which lasted a week, and years which disappeared in minutes. Time is fluid. A playful trickster, I will NOT allow to dictate to me.
While I am not yet an antique I am certainly in the (early) evening of my days. I don't need any special announcement to tell me that the days remaining to me are in the minority.
So what? Recognition of this simple fact changes nothing, and doesn't require any special strategy. I will continue to enjoy the moments. All of them. My picturesque life is drawing to a close, and with luck the sunset before I set out on the last adventure will be spectacular...'

    2. I can only dream of writing something as poetic as this. Well done EC.

    3. Will the "last adventure" be to the supermarket to buy a loaf of bread and a pint of milk? Watch out for passing buses and mad axemen!

  5. What a selection! I'll have to get out my old thesaurus and hope the extra meanings spark something in my mind.
What am I going to do with enigmatic?

  6. I have an announcement to make. I am in the minority as a free spirit, but I have never let that dictate my strategy in life. My approach to living has always been unplanned and fluid and many times enigmatic to my parent’s eyes. They never understood that recognition and wealth was not something I craved. Their approach to life seemed antique to me. They were old school and too conservative. This contrast in outlooks brought a divisive atmosphere to the dinner table each evening. Thus, now that I am an adult, I have made my decision. I will be more playful as I age and I plan to move to that picturesque village of Bilbury, England where the wedding guest was thrown into the river a few weeks ago after a drunken brawl in which five people were arrested. I am going to be a partygoer and this little village ought to provide me lots opportunity. This was fun.

  7. Lee, I really like that picture you have heading this post. Would you mind if I (we) borrowed it too? We could use it each week to announce the words or to announce our stories/poems.
