Duty's Tragic Call.

The tragic deaths incurred by the collision of the Black Hawk helicopter with HMAS Kanimbla, causing it to plunge into the dark, forbidding depths of the ocean, some two to three kilometers below the surface, has sadden this nation. Two fine young men lost in the prime of their lives. The pilot, Mark Bingley leaves behind a young widow and a six-month old son, a son who will never know his father. 28 year-old SAS Corporal Joshua Porter, forever entombed beneath the sea it would appear after the length of time that has transpired since the helicopter went down, leaves behind a loving family who still wait in hope that he will be found alive. Sadly, as each minute, each hour and day passes, this is an unlikely scenario.

Let's all give these fine young men, their loved ones and friends, a moment's silence and our heartfelt thanks for their service in conflicts over the past years. Lest We Forget.....

  4. Having been involved in a couple of Helicopter crashes at sea and losing a few squadron mates I can attest to the sense of loss everyone will feel..especially those crew left behind that have to continue on as if nothing happened. When I was in the service a Militray accident did get News coverage on the scale that it now attracts. I REALLY hope that the families DO NOT get involved and BLAM the militray for the loss of their sons. They knew what they were getting into when they signed up. It hurts the guys left behind when the bereaved family attack the service that they are part of. Endeth the rant. Sorry Lee but I do agree that we should never forget :)

  5. I agree with you, scorpy. I hope the families don't blame the military either. This is so evident in the Kovco case...even though there were errors made, that is apparent...but I can see no purpose gained for carrying it on and on and all the bitterness. No amount of 'blaming' is going to bring anybody back!

The Black Hawk coming down was a tragic accident. Accidents, unfortunately, happen. We hear about them every day through the news services.

It saddens me when I hear of deaths, accidental or otherwise, of our people in the Forces. They are there upholding the belief we have in our country and our democracy...on our behalf.

I understand how it must hurt the guys left behind. They have more than enough to contend with, without these kinds of extra burdens, that's for sure!
