The Greatest of the Great!

"Some can sing opera, Luciano Pavarotti was an opera. He lived the songs, his opera was a great mash of joy and sadness; surreal and earthy at the same time ."

The world is a sadder place from the passing of Luciano Pavarotti. His magnificence thrilled and inspired us for many years. The purity, clarity of his unique tenor voice caused the coldest, hardest heart to melt. His charismatic charm engulfed us all, I'm sure. I know it did me. Who could not be charmed by the genuine sparkle in his dark, expressive eyes.

Luciano Pavarotti will be sadly missed. Thankfully his brilliance will live long through his recordings and filmed performances.

My neighbours will have to purchase ear plugs over the weekend, a weekend I'm dedicating to the maestro...Luciano Pavarotti...you were my hero. Thank you. Thank you for sharing your extraordinary talent with us all.

  2. People liked to knock him but he was my favourite tenor and I liked the fact that he mixed with the pop music too.
We always open Christmas presents while listening to his O Holy Night CD.

  3. My friend called me early this morning to tell me he'd died.

I spent the rest of the morning listening to that remarkable voice while I worked.

    Thank you for the tribute.

  4. I adored Pavarotti...it's a sad day for the world when a gifted musician like him is no longer.

I have a special place for him in my heart because, in looks, he reminds me very much of someone whom I loved in the past...this guy could sing too, but not quite in the same sphere.

RIP Luciano...your music brought joy to millions of people.

  7. Hi Lee, it is always sad when a huge talent dies, he will live on forever in his music though.
It's nice to see you had room in your heart for more than one Italian love affair.

  8. How sad that such a powerful voice has been stilled. He'll be greatly missed. I'm glad I have a couple of his CDs, especially the Christmas music. So beautiful.

  9. Oh! I have a huge heart, Peter! ;)

He brings tears to my eyes every time I hear his music, Serena...I would have loved to have seen him live. A friend of mine did and he still raves about it.

You certainly do have a wonderful way put putting words down...expressive, colourful and always enjoyable. :)

  14. A fabulous voice. Mind you his life was a bit of an opera! He will be missed. Wish I was your neighbour, I would drop my normal standards and bring the chianti.

  15. I remember the first time I heard him and fell in love with that VOICE IMMEDIATELY.
He could send chills up the spine with those pipes of his.
Ah the Great Tenor, thank you, thank you.
I agree we should make the universe sing with his music.

  16. j cosmo newbery...most lives are lives of opera...the antipasti awaits your arrival. ;)

He exuded a presence, Lady Di, together with that marvellous voice. He had that special "it factor"...if it could be bottled it would be worth a fortune.

The hills will be alive with the sound of Pavarotti...

  17. Lee,

I the first line, "some can sing opera, he was an opera". There is something so soothing about his voice. Even those Aria's that seem to make no sense at first are gently calmed by his voice.

To lose so much in one person is a greater loss than I believe we all know.

  21. Gidday Lee,

'Tis a sad day when another superb singer passes away. The great thing about today's technology is that his music can be played and listened again on CD and viewed on DVD.
My favourite Luciano Pavarotti song is Nessun Dorma!
I'm not a great classical music lover but the 3 Tenors brought Opera music to the fore.
