WORDS FOR WEDNESDAY

Words for Wednesday” is provided by a number of people, on Wednesday of every week of each month.  The word fun has become a movable feast.

Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Stir the grey matter into action.

Each week we are given a choice of prompts, which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...  We can use some, or all of the prompts.
This month...the month of June, is my turn to nudge you all into action.  You don't have to play if you do not wish to do so.

Some of us put our creation in comments' section on the post, and others post on their own blog.   Some do both.
Those of us who participate would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme, which includes cheering on the other participants.
If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and all others who partake in the fun and games can come along and applaud.

As advised above, this month’s prompts will be supplied by me, Lee.  Thank you for participating during June.
'WORDS FOR WEDNESDAY' DURING THE MONTH OF JULY WILL BE SUPPLIED BY -  VEST....OVER AT HIS BLOG -  "THE DAILY GAGGLE"....HE WILL MAKE YOU FEEL VERY WELCOME!

This week’s “Words for Wednesday” are the six words listed below:

Audacious
Angst
Narrative
Provocative
Thoughtless
Courtesy

OR

Caricature
Undercurrent
Multiple
Dominant
Ultimate
Confident

With a great amount of difficulty, she had to control herself during the past week – take a few steps back, keeping her thoughts, and emotions, to herself.

Any AUDACIOUS behaviour on her part would have been akin to cutting off her nose to spite her face.

It wasn’t the first time she had felt that way.  She knew it wouldn’t be the last.

In conversations with her very best friend - the one person she trusted completely - what had been occurring around her over the past few days was the DOMINANT topic of their discourses. She tried not to burden her friend, so she kept phone conversations between them to a minimum.

However, there times when she needed a “soft place to fall”; the sympathetic ear of someone who understood her.

Her frustration and her anger built up by the day; by the hour.  Like Sally Bowles in “Cabaret”, she needed to vent.

The reason for her ANGST was the THOUGHTLESS attitude of some others who didn’t have the COURTESY to forewarn her, let alone keep her informed about what was going on, or admit the problem was caused by them - him, in particular.

It’s not the first time she’d become invisible.  Often, half-jokingly she would say she had the unique, clever knack of being able to do so.

What went on over the past week or so was not the first time she’d not fitted into their NARRATIVE - their understanding of life.  She felt CONFIDENT it wouldn’t be the last time.

MULTIPLE times her feelings have not been taken into account.  Their careless, inconsiderate attitude makes her feel she doesn’t exist.

Their outlook on life, and towards others, is vastly different to her own.

She finds their attitude towards her is PROVOCATIVE, to say the least.  It’s very vexing.

Frequently, she is forced to bite her tongue.

She dislikes hypocrites, but more so, she hates being a hypocrite, but when forced into a corner, she has little other choice.

In their eyes and way of thinking, she believes they look at her as the ULTIMATE CARICATURE of a human being.  It's not a pleasant feeling.

She knows she’s not imagining the UNDERCURRENT, the undertones beneath what is said to her at times...oft times, making her feel as if she is a second-class citizen.

She is not.

Empathy is not part of their vocabulary.  She doubts they know how to spell the word.  They live under the premise that they’re always right.

They are not.

  2. Have you gone back in time and eavesdropped on my school years? this is how I felt a lot of the time, on the outer of the cliques of others.
Once I began working, I no longer cared so much what others thought and said.
Interesting words, I'll see what my brain makes of them.

  4. Hello, I am new to your blog. This looks like fun so I hope I have interpreted the advice on the fun activity correctly... if not I had fun writing this account of how I felt a couple of weeks ago!! Cheers, Elle

Elle was aware of the UNDERCURRENT of restlessness she felt. Almost to the point where she could not sit still or settle with one of the MULTIPLE magazines sitting on the table in the waiting room.
She fidgeted with her hanky, twisting it in her hands. Jumping up she saw her reflection in the mirror at the end of the room. Her face was pale, her brow furrowed … even her hair had gone frizzy – startled she realised she looked like a CARRICATURE of normal self. Sally was shocked!
“Pull yourself together woman” she said out loud. And as suddenly, felt the ULTIMATE embarrassment when the other people in the waiting room looked up from what they were reading and stared at her questioningly.
Sally puzzled as to why she felt this DOMINANT feeling of dread… usually she was such a CONFIDENT person.
Then she heard the buzz of the Dentist’s drill and she knew exactly why she was turning into a shaking mess – her turn in the Dentists chair was next!!

  6. Lee. While travelling from one field of employment to another many times where your new associates have been well established over time, as a newcomer it is sometimes difficult to fit in, even though you may be their superior in status their knowledge of the if's and buts of your new surrounds and all the back hand dodges gives them the opportunity to make you seem to be inferior. The trick is to learn quickly to avoid further embarrassment; until they make their fatal mistake keep your distance like saying "Good Dog" until you find a big rock.

    1. Hi Vest...I never had trouble fitting in, in the various jobs I had throughout my working life...not that I can recall, anyway. If there were any minor early difficulties with existing staff...they were very minor and soon disappeared into the ether. I don't recall any making me feel inferior, at any time.

That wasn't the premise behind my use of the words. :)

  7. It was the night of the long-awaited greyhound derby. As the six eager racing dogs were paraded around the stadium, the crowd's excitement mounted. Over the tannoy system, the finalists were introduced by Steve Ruthin, the regular announcer: "In Trap One it's Caricature owned be Lee George. In Trap Two it's Undercurrent owned by Terry Stynes. In Trap Three it's the bitch Multiple owned by Yorkshire Pudding. In Trap Four it's Dominant owned by Messymimi. In Trap Five and looking very lively - it's Ultimate owned by River and in Trap Six it's Confident looking pretty confident and owned by Elle B!"

To much cheering the greyhounds set off, following the hare as it surged around the inner rail. Come on Caricature! Come on Undercurrent!

But after two circuits it was clear who the winner was - by three clear lengths - the bitch Multiple owned by Yorkshire Pudding. The proud owner accepted his silver trophy with good grace and carefully put the winner's cheque in his inside pocket. Twenty five thousand bucks is not to be sniffed at! He patted the still panting dog and tossed him a handful of nutritious "Vest" dog biscuits.

  10. Here we go.....
“Look at all the humans 89. How are we ever going to find 221?”
“What does 221 look like?” asked 89.
    “Like everyone else.” Sighed 92.
“There is an inquiry post over there.” 89 said. “We can page 221.”
“WOULD 221 PLEASE REPORT TO INQUIRY POST B, PINK BLOCK, EAST SIDE TO MEET 89 AND 92. THANK YOU.”
“I hope that NARRATIVE fell with the new protocol 92.”
92 looked dismal. “ I don’t think it’s necessary to say ‘thank you’ until your inquiry is satisfactorily answered but I don’t think there is any penalty for using it.”
Just then a human in an AUDACIOUS pink and orange outfit flounced toward them. Identified as 221 this individual had MULTIPLE coloured hair and exuded CONFIDENCE with every movement.
An UNDERCURRENT of murmurs ran through the crowd. You could feel the ANGST rising like a cloud. This behaviour was boldly PROVOCATIVE and could only result in trouble for everyone in the immediate proximity to this THOUGHTLESS human.
221 tossed the brightly coloured hair. As a COURTESY to those who had arranged the meeting, 221 pulled a drab grey cloak and hood from a pocket and pulled it around the offensive outfit and hair. “That should calm things down.” 221 murmured, now portraying a perfect CARICATURE of the rest of the population of East Square.
    “Whatever possessed you?” 89 hissed.
“You know, ULTIMATELY, you will be tracked down and punished and very likely we will be too by association. There are cameras everywhere.”
221 glowered furiously. “I (oh horrors) don’t care who knows it. I’m tired of being DOMINATED by these ridiculous rules and regulations. From now on I’m me…Melissa….I’m a she and proud of it and I will refer to any of these other humans as a he or a she. Really people, if it looks like a man, walks like a man, talks like a man….well then, it’s not a goose is it? I will refer to myself as’ I’ whenever I please.” Melissa paused in her tirade as the sound of sirens could be heard approaching. The crowd thinned leaving the three; 89, 92 and Melissa (formerly known as 221) standing…awaiting retribution.

  13. Oh dear, just as I fear my vocabulary is shrinking by the day. I'll have to try it sometime though.

I ran into some of your compatriots (I had to look that up too to make sure it fit) during our Alaska cruise. There was a large contingent of Aussies there with a tour group and they wanted me to know that they were from "southern Australia". Made me wonder, is there a divide between north and south there, politically or otherwise, as there is here in the U.S.?

    1. Hey Dave...last month my landlady went on a cruise up around Alaska! She might have been one of the ones you met!!

No great divide other than the Great Dividing Range that runs north to south (or south to north, whatever way one looks at it).

States south of Queensland (my state) such as New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania are referred to as the 'southern states'....only because they are in the south of us. :)

      Thanks for coming by. :)

  14. I set about, pen in hand, to do up a caricature of our wondrous president Trump but I felt an undercurrent of possibilities due to his multiple personality traits. To pick a dominant one amongst his many was the ultimate goal as I pondered. Ultimately I selected an orange blob, confident that I had covered all the bases.
