This meme was started by a lady named Delores a long time ago. Words for Wednesday are now provided by a number of people and, it has become a moveable feast.
Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write. Each week we are given a choice of prompts, which can be words, phrases, music or an image. What we do with them is up to us: a short story, prose, a song, a poem or treating them with ignore. We can use some or all of the prompts.
Some of us put our creations on the post and others post on their own blog. I would really like as many people as possible to join the meme, which includes cheering on other participants (definitely the more the merrier). If you are posting on your own blog, please let me know so that I, and the other participants, can come along and applaud.
This month it's my turn for "Words for Wednesday". Please do join in the fun!

Albeit nervously, Maggie waited
in eager anticipation of what lay ahead.
She read through her notes once again...for about the hundredth time...maybe
more...to refresh her memory of what
she needed to say. There would be no second
chance. She knew her presentation had to be faultless. It needed to be flawless,
without error...in a word...perfect. The privilege Maggie felt having made it this
far, she didn’t treat lightly.
Her verbal submission was literally
as important as the wood sculpture she
had presented two days earlier. It was already on display on a platform in the main hall, along with the
creations of others who were also hoping for a place in the visual arts course.
The college had a firm quota system in place for the selection
of the right young people for the master classes. The teachers were there not only to teach, but to encourage and inspire the development
of the chosen students.
Maggie knew being accepted would transform
her life...her future...forever. If she
was accepted she would learn to ply her
chisels, and other tools, like those of the masters...the experts.
Maggie believed she would be in a state of perpetual bliss if she was successful in being accepted.
Taking deep breaths, she held her head high as she entered the office of
the dean and the teaching sculptors who were waiting to interview her...ready to
put her through her paces.
“Here I go! Don’t blow it!” Maggie
told herself, smiling confidently at those before her as she sat down.
Copied the words, will be back to read after i am done with mine (otherwise i find myself tempted to be a copycat!).
ReplyDeleteSee you soon, messymimi! :)
DeleteMe too
DeleteOh dear. I spend so much of my time writing - mostly letters and the occasional blog post - that I don't need any prompting so I'm afraid that I'm going to pass on this one.
ReplyDeleteThat's okay, Graham...you don't have to play the game. I shan't put you in detention! :)
DeleteI hope Maggie's hard work is met with success. I really like the way you wove the prompts through this story.
ReplyDeleteThere is no quota for happiness!!! In just three months we will refresh and transform your life. If you follow our simple regime your body will be literally faultless.
ReplyDeleteEEZEY SLIM'S platform was aimed at the perpetual dieter: the people of privilege (mostly women) who believed that you could never be too rich or too thin. EEZEY SLIM used glossy magazines to ply their trade, with articles talking in pseudo scientific terms about exciting new developments. The testimonials were glowing and the featured models made marble sculptures look flabby.
Alexia was hooked. She was certainly rich. However, each day she consumed enough calories to meet the energy quota for a football team. And it showed.
The advertisements and the website promised discretion. She signed up, gave them her credit card details and waited with anticipation for her personal program to arrive in her inbox. And waited. And waited some more.
The website disappeared and phone number was disconnected.
A fool and her money are soon parted.
Hahahahaha! Very well done, EC. You used the words brilliantly! :)
DeleteAll together now, a healthy moderate diet and plenty of exercise! Boring, but the only way.
DeleteWell written!
I would describe Alexa as a fool, definitely. Mind you there are so many ads that look appealing and can mislead people can't they? Well done Sue. I liked it.
DeleteWell done EC. I hope Alexa doesn't drown her sorrows in more food.
DeleteOMG. I didn't see that coming. This was great.
DeleteRigti out of Lucky Luke into our reality. Thank you!
DeleteBrilliant, EC. I loved the last line - ha ha.
DeleteGirl you are definitely a writer - I don't think I could do that. Please stay safe!
ReplyDeleteAlcalador began to muse over the witch’s visit a few days ago. She had explained to him, with faultless logic, that humans, with their perpetual production of carbon gases were gradually ruining the earth – they did not realize it was a privilege to live on such a beautiful world. They were literally destroying it with their development of cars, aeroplanes, fossil burning fuels, etc. and something must be done to transform and refresh the world’s climate. The witch awaited Alacalador’s answer with great anticipation. Howeve4r, he wanted to think over her information. He wanted to ply her with questions before he finally produced his suggestions for a remedy. He had told her to return in a week by which time he hoped to have developed a platform for his remedial ideas.
ReplyDeleteOnly used 10 of the words today, couldn't fit in the last two.
Ten is fine, Jo. And ten marks to you for your very good contribution.
DeleteTake care! :)
Thanks Lee and the same to you.
DeleteI really like this Jo - and a dragon's wisdom is always worth waiting for. I suspect that he and the witch will make a really good team.
DeleteI hope your expectations can be justified Sue.
DeleteHappy to hear more of Alcalador and the witch. Thank you!
DeleteThis is really good. At least you managed 10 more words than me - I came up with a big fat Zero! I like the sound of your dragon.
DeleteGood luck to Maggie!
ReplyDeleteMy words are over here.
I do hope Maggie gets a place. Wood sculpting is a very interesting art, I've seen some amazing carved trees.
ReplyDeleteThank you, one and all. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a good story and you used all the words - wow. Well done Lee.
ReplyDeleteThere is yet another take on your prompts HERE..
ReplyDeleteExcellent, Lee!
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope your heroine qualify.
ReplyDeleteHere's my contribution: Words for Wednesday.
Pff...portuguesitos mentirosos e ignorantes nunca aprendereis.
Um Tuga forte fala verdades sempre.
With sky-high unemployed in Portugal right now, you are seeing MANY unemployed youth like Alexandre Soleiro coming on youtube and spreading lies and fake news about Spain. Is that simple. Portugal is an economic mess right now, and Alexandre is just one of the many victims.
O problema é que Portugal é uma terra de ladrões. Eles roubam como um marinheiro bêbado, depois inventam a história para enganar as pessoas a pensar que Olivenza é portuguesa quando é Espanhola desde o primeiro dia.
With sky-high unemployed in Portugal right now, you are seeing MANY unemployed youth like all Portuguese coming on the internet and spreading lies and fake news about Spain. Is that simple. Portugal is an economic mess right now, and all of Portugal is just one of the many victims.

Oh, Lee, this is so good. Very similar to what I had in mind, but try as I might I've failed miserably this week to put down anything on paper that truly expressed what I wanted to say. Hopefully I shall have more luck with the next set. I salute you on doing such a good job. Best wishes.
