WORDS FOR WEDNESDAY

This meme was started by a lady named Delores a long time ago.  Words for Wednesday are now provided by a number of people and, it has become a moveable feast.

Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts, which can be words, phrases, music or an image.  What we do with them is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem or treating them with ignore.  We can use some or all of the prompts.

Some of us put our creations on the post and others post on their own blog.  I would really like as many people as possible to join the meme, which includes cheering on other participants (definitely the more the merrier). If you are posting on your own blog, please let me know so that I, and the other participants, can come along and applaud.

This month it's my turn for "Words for Wednesday".  Please do join in the fun!  Fun is what it's all about!

1.  Physical                                                 7.  Bearing

2.  Partial                                                    8.  Accomplish

3.  Performance                                          9.  Deficient

4.  Melee                                                    10.  Hullabaloo

5.  Odyssey                                                11.  Concrete

6.  Amplify                                                12.  Cultural

After the unnecessary hullabaloo, which had absolutely no bearing on what they were trying to accomplish, the group believed they would not only be deficient in common sense, but in the cultural sense of what they were trying to achieve, as well, if they allowed the melee to amplify and become physical.

From the performance of some within the tumultuous, uninformed mob it was feared heads and bodies would hit the concrete footpath, meaning people would get hurt if matters weren’t brought under control...and brought under control immediately in a calm manner.

Violence emanating from ignorance was not wanted. Violence was not part of the group’s spiritual, intellectual odyssey.  It never would be tolerated.  So, it had to be nipped in the bud now, not later.

To have to deploy even partial protection from the police was not what the group had envisaged, or wanted.  Once that happened, in their opinion, temper temperatures would rise. Turmoil and protests were not what the group were about; not what they desired.  Such disruptive behaviour never solved anything.  Unfortunately, it appeared some police protection would have to be applied before they could move forward...peacefully.

  1. I hope that they can move forward - with or without police protection.

    1. Great use of the words. I hope they don't need the police too much or too long.

  2. fter her performance in a recent test Joan's doctor told her that her condition was not deficient but abysmal.
He went on and on about. And on some more.
Tired of the hullabaloo (which her nagging grandchildren amplified) she reluctantly agreed to start an exercise program.
It has to be weight-bearing he said. Find something you like and stick to it. If you make a full rather than a partial commitment I can guarantee that you will see concrete results in a very short time.
But what could she do? Her odyssey had always spiritual rather than physical. She told him that she had a cultural (and indeed religious) objection to getting sweaty. Join the melee in the gym? Pah. Organised ball games? Pfft.
    She had it. Nordic walking.
    Something she could accomplish!
She could see herself now, striding out with like minded souls, walking miles through the country side - and with the additional benefit of poles to ward off yappy dogs and critical relatives.
The advertisements talked about toned arms and a pert derriere as well. Definitely something to look forward to...

    1. No gyms for me; no Tom, Dick or Harry, either! No striding through the countryside, either...not with poles, or my walking stick!

I'll leave the striding out to Joan while I sit on the mountainside around the corner from here and drink in the view of the valley below and the mountain range on the distant horizon. I'll look forward to seeing the toned arms and pert derrieres of others!

Good one, EC...thanks for participating. You never let the side down. :)

    2. Never had a pert derrière so not likely to worry about it these days. I'm far too old for that sort of thing. I like to exercise my arms by picking up a full glass or maybe a knife and fork.

    3. I've been told my walking is not enough, I need to push myself, get to the huffing, puffing sweaty stage for at least half of the hour walk each time. I hate getting all sweaty, not only because it creates a whole lot of extra clothes washing.

    4. A pert derrierer what a wonderful expression. Thanks for this take on the words.

    5. It seems we are on the same wavelength this week, EC. I'm not one for gyms and rigours exercise, even Nordic walking is a step - or stride - too far. My garden keeps me fit during the summer months and in the winter I hibernate. (Sadly, no pert derriere for me.)

    6. No pert derriere here either. And snap on the gardening (though I continue it through our wimpy winters as well.

  3. Lee, it is sad that peaceful people sometimes have to resort to such a solution as hiring police. We have to have police protection as church now, too.

EC, let's hope she sticks to it and gets the desired results.

As for my use of your words, you’re not gonna believe this one.

  5. Eventually the witch (Eleuthera) returned to talk to Alcalador once more. He told her that the first thing he had decided to do was to change to human form and begin an odyssey around the world to discover what all the hullabaloo was about. He thought he knew enough of the cultural bearing of modern day humans and that his physical appearance would be accepted enabling him to give a performance which would accomplish that which he set out to achieve. He had one advantage in this plan, he was partial to human food, especially that of the Oriental countries. The witch agreed with his decision and proceeded to amplify her previous descriptions of the condition of the world today. Alcalador assured her he would not be deficient in his research and would return with some concrete evidence to support any further ideas he may have. He also had enough gold collected that he could finance a reasonably wealthy progress in his endeavour.

    1. Love it Jo. And am grateful that he is partial to human food (rather than to humans as food).

    3. Wow, well written. I hope to hear more of Alcalador.

    4. No Sue, I wouldn't write about a dragon who ate humans. I like good dragons basically, not that they are totally good by human expectations.

Lee, I have ideas mapped out in my head, but can't do much until I get the next set of words.

Mother Owl, I plan to extend the story over the weeks, Words permitting.

  6. You did it again as you always do..It's sad that Police protection might be needed, even though it's a story it goes true to real life.
    Take care.

    2. Performance of late has been on a partial scale since the physical melee created by Margie Rains zoomies when she came bearing down on me knocking me flat of my back on a ooncrete driveway. As my world turned like a true space odyssey, with help I accomplish the task of sitting upright. This position only amplify the turning of my world. Prince and Puppy put on a well scripted Hullabaloo to get me inside the house. Ice pack in hand, I began to ponder how normal tasks would suffer from my deficient body for the coming weeks. Limited physically I watched more than my share of cultural shows on our public television station.

  10. Well done, Lee. It seems it's getting harder all the time for a peaceful demonstration not to break out into some sort of skirmish. Here is my entry - just one short of the full pack, this week.

“♪♪ Let’s get PHYSICAL,PHYSICAL …♪♪” - Olivia Newton-John blared through the speakers, bouncing off the walls and added an extra level of hype to the HULLABALOO in full swing in the studio. A CULTURAL PERFORMANCE it most definitely was not - rather a MELEE of flying elbows, bouncing bosoms and stomping feet. Having been lured in by the poster offering a “Personal ODYSSEY to Future health and Well-being …” Lizzy and Carole were rapidly learning that their own ‘personal odysseys’ were on a very, very long and winding road. Both being naturally DEFICIENT in poise and grace, they had been hoping to ACCOMPLISH much more than a PARTIAL success in a rather dubious bump-and-grind dance routine. The way Sofia had burst into the room on the first day at full trot in a too-tight fluorescent pink leotard and matching sweatband should have warned them that their expectations and reality were poles apart.
As their side-steps and stomps manoeuvred them nearer to the open fire exit, Lizzy grabbed Carole’s sweaty hand - “Quick, let’s make a break for it…”, and they were out of the doorway in a flash, hitting the CONCRETE at full pelt as they raced to the nearest place of safety, the pub next door. The pulsing beat of the next track only served to AMPLIFY their relief as it followed them from the gym and into the bar.
“Hello Ladies, what are you two up to?” grinned Alec from behind the bar, eyeing their shorts, tanktops and glistening faces. “We’re on the run from …” Carole cocked her head in the direction of the gym. “Well, it sounds like they are playing your tune” Alec replied, straight-faced. The girls looked at him, burst out laughing and high-fived each other as they joined in with the Rolling Stones …”♪♪ This could be the last time, This could be the last time. May be the last time - I don’t know-ow ♪♪”.

  12. Here is my own short story:

What had been a partial performance of push and shove hit a full-on physical melee when Jaimie got all mean with his brother. Fists began to fly; screams were amplified as Jaimie plowed into Bart. He had no understanding of the odyssey he was beginning. A quest for superiority like this one never ended well when Bart came at him swinging. They both went down, blood all over. Mommy would not be pleased.
