Compliments Where & When Due...

In the mail the other day, I received promotional data from Telstra BigPond Broadband. I've been considering switching over to broadband for some time but as I had prepaid six months' ahead with my current and long-term provider, 'consider' was all I'd been doing regarding switching from 'dial-up' to broadband. As my present contract is up for renewal on 1st December, the information and offer from Telstra couldn't have arrived at a more opportune time.

I have nothing but praise to hand to Telstra because of the prompt way they have answered and attended to my enquiries, all done on-line. They made me feel like a valued customer in the way they have treated me so politely and promptly. We've exchanged many e-mails and I almost feel like I know the person with whom I've been dealing.

The deal on offer is a very good one...half-price broadband access for the first 12 months on a 24 month plan, plus free modem and no connection fee. I'll be self-installing the modem....well, I hope I'm able to do so...this could be a lot of fun! Watch this space for updates on hair-pulling and refraining from picking up the sledgehammer!

It will take a couple of weeks, no doubt, for everything to fall into place but this is the most sensible money-saving way for me to go. I'm sorry to be losing my current ISP...Spiderweb...as I've been with them for eight years and have always had wonderful service from them. Plus, I know the team at Spiderweb, personally and I feel like I'm letting them down, however, I have to take the best deal on offer.

We can all be at times quick to criticise but when credit is due, it must be given...and Telstra deserve many credits on the way they have dealt with me on this matter.

I hope Bigpond have set some realistic download standards at last Lee, their old limits were very low and you were charged more if you exceeded them.
With the speed of broadband it is both possible and enjoyable to quickly spend a lot more time on the net than you are used too.
If they offer an option of reduction in speed as opposed to extra charges, (as most ISPs do) that's the way to go.

  2. I'm going 'unlimited' Peter...none of this having to pay for excess. If I go over the limit, it will slow down a bit, but that doesn't concern me. Thanks for your advice, though...apppreciated. :)

I'm not sure if I can spend any more time on the Net...I'm pretty much connected 24/7 now. I only check my phone for messages every so often. I hate the phone! My friends know to leave a message and I get back to them. But this deal with BigPond is a good one...I just got the brochure/card in the mailbox on Thursday. And they're organising it all for me now. They've been incredibly helpful and very polite. I've not got a bad word to say about their treatment over this.

  3. I'm with Bigpond but I managed (?) to join just before all the specials came in. So I paid full price on my plan AND had to buy the modem - though there was no connection fee. The self installation is so basic, you should have no problems. I was worried but managed to be up and running within minutes - and was actually shocked it all happened so quickly.

The basic plan was fine for me - until I started blogging!! I've now upgraded to unlimited usage because that's so much more economical for me.

Though I'm quite happy, I am going to look for something more reasonably priced when my contract is up - unless Telstra make me an offer I can't refuse...

  4. That's a relief, Tanya...I hope I have little trouble installing it. The modem in this deal is free as well. It's a very good deal. First 12 months are half-price. I've been putting it off, so I'm glad I did now.
